I tell you the truth: whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.
Jesus, Matthew 25:40
WELCOME TO PROYECTO COMPASIÓN.
CASA HOGAR
In Mexican Spanish, "Casa Hogar" means orphanage
SELECTION CRITERIA
In deciding to help an orphanage we assure ourselves that the orphanage is underfunded, and that the children are being cared for in a safe, clean, Christian environment. Through personal visits and by asking knowledgeable third parties we attempt to learn about the background and motives of the founders and directors.
ORPHANAGES WE SERVE
Most of the assistance we provide goes to Casa de Elizabeth orphanage in Ímuris, Sonora, which receives regular bi-monthly cash support. We also help Casa de Elizabeth through a "Sponsor a Child" program, by coordinating visits to the orphanage by people from the U.S., and by coordinating work projects to maintain and improve the facilities.
We have made donations to two new orphanages that are being built by private funds from concerned citizens in Mexico. One of these is Casa Hogar Niños del Desierto in Caborca, Sonora and the other is Casa Hogar Tierra del Sol Brilliante in El Fuerte, Sinaloa.
We have also helped Casa Hogar in Nogales, Sonora, although this orphanage is very well supported by leading citizens of this city.
We also provide a monthly stipend of food to needy children in the very poor village of Puerto Lobo, Sonora.
The orphanages we serve receive little or no help from government agencies and are thus almost 100% dependent on help from private parties and organizations. As an example, while Proyecto Compasión sends between $6,000 and $10,000 per month to one orphanage, the government social services agency provides only 3,000 pesos per month, or less than U.S. $230 per month (exchange rate 13 pesos per 1 U.S. dollar).
